Steven Brown (Tuxedomoon) concert
Our dear and well-known guest is back in Rijeka! The pioneer of the New York No Wave scene and co-founder of the legendary band Tuxedomoon returns with a brand new, extremely personal album.
It all began in 1977, when American cosmopolitan Steven Brown founded the art-rock band Tuxedomoon. Their first albums were released by the avant-garde crew of The Residents on the Ralph Records label — and the band quickly became one of the most influential acts of the 1980s. After Ronald Reagan came to power, Brown and his collaborators moved to Brussels, where they spent more than a decade developing a unique musical aesthetic.
Today, Steven Brown has lived in Mexico for decades. He has released 15 albums with Tuxedomoon and more than 20 releases under his own name and with Mexican projects Ensemble Kafka, Nine Rain and Cinema Domingo Orchestra. He has also composed music for dance (e.g. for Maurice Béjart), theater and especially for film (from Sergei Eisenstein and Fritz Lang to Wim Wenders and David Lynch).
In the spring of 2026, the prestigious PIAS label will release his new album “In This Very World”: a journey through the poetry of the night sky, a true story of brave women who drove gangsters out of a small Mexican town, and a striking cover of a David Bowie song.
Brown’s voice, piano, clarinet and saxophone are surrounded by the trumpet and harmonica of Luc van Lieshout (Tuxedomoon), the guitar and double bass of Benjamin Glibert (Aquaserge), the unique vocals of Sarmen Almond and the passionate cello of the extraordinary Guatemalan musician Mabe Fratti.
With guitarist Lucien Fraipont (Aksak Maboul), Van Lieshout will form an intimate trio — a concert lineup that brings a special experience to Europe. And of course: Tuxedomoon classics will be an integral part of these unforgettable performances.
Ticket prices: early bird until 15. 2. for €20, pre-sale from 16. 2. to 22.5. for €25 and on the day of the concert for €35. Tickets can be purchased at Dallas Music Shop Rijeka and online at Core Event.
As a gift to everyone who loves Steven’s music we’ve released our first PEEK&POKE podcast with Steven Brown as a guest! The conversation was hosted by Iv/An — Ivan Antunović, a Zagreb musician, producer and visual artist who is active in the domestic and international underground scene. We chose him not only because he is our dear friend and frequent guest, but also because he is the perfect interviewer for Steven.
